To Be, Or Not To Be, Married
WHENEVER SOMEONE ASKS ME why I am not married, which is surprisingly often, I am almost invariably able to respond: "because I would never, in a million years, wish to endure what I sense you have endured." I don't actually say that, but I think it, and if I said it, I would be telling the truth. Unlike Mr. Trump I have learned to not always say what I think. What I actually say is: "my mother says its because I'm smart." She actually did say that, and that some people are just plain not meant to be married. Actually, I have been told the same thing by many happily married people, who tell me that, yes, they are glad they are married, and wouldn't trade their married life for the world, but yes, I am smart to not marry. I usually just leave it at that, because, frankly, that attitude confuse me a bit. Staying single and not having children allowed me to work when I chose, to save money, and to retire at sixty. The down side is, I never get to participate in any family activities, and when I get old (no, not yet), and infirm, I won't have anybody to take care of me. To me marriage is among the most glorious institutions ever invented by humanity, a backbone of civilization. marriage to me is like smart phones and privacy fences; perfectly wonderful under the proper circumstances, with the added blessing that one can choose whether to participate. No matter what we do, we wonder what it would be like to do something else. What would it have been like to have been married? I often ask myself. The answer, obviously, depends on who I would have married. I probably would have worked harder, been under more pressure, achieved more success, lived in a larger house, had more stress in my daily life, and more love. Then too, maybe more animosity, child support payments, and less personal wealth. Alas, there are benefits and disadvantages to all circumstances. A friend of mine once told me he wished he could simultaneously live many different lives, just to experience more. Now, that's what I call a zest for life.......PLEASE SHARE THIS WEBSITE WITH YOUR FRIENDS. WE WANT TO PROVIDE A FORUM FOR CREATIVE EXPRESSION.
