Being Inappropriately Unashamed of Ourselves

PREDICTIONS ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE and sea level rise are increasingly alarming, as the world's scientists, in their ceaseless attempt to disprove their own theories, refine, verify, and improve upon them. That's how science works. Science does not function as a monolithic, cooperative conspiracy. Rather, it is the most highly competitive and self questioning of all forms of human endeavor, a continuous battle ground of conflicting and competing research centers, each questioning and challenging the work of all others, as the most self correcting process known to humanity forever improves upon its own results. No matter what the question, the scientific method develops better answers every year. If global warming were not real, the self correcting scientific method would have long ago discovered as much, and would have announced its previously mistaken conclusions to us all. Even if a mistake is covered up by the overwhelming majority of scientists, which is virtually impossible, there would be that one, or more renegade breaking free of the cover up to reveal the truth, if only for her own advancement and glory. Princeton and Harvard compete more fiercely in the laboratory than on the football field, with much better results. That so many people do not understand how science actually works is tragic, because if they did, they would realize that climate change is real, like evolution or vaccinations against diseases, due to its having been in existence for so long without being effectively challenged. People love living close to the ocean, and love living in cities, despite the fact that building big seaside cities is, at this point, an utterly idiotic and tragically mistaken activity, one which will all too soon result in disastrous consequences. We should be moving away from the world's oceans, not towards them. The inevitable cost of undoing what we are now doing will, within the next century, be staggering. Sea level has risen eight inches, verifiably, within the past one hundred years. This fact is indisputable; scientists from all disciplines have, in their unending attempts to prove that the ocean hasn't risen, proven that it has, is, and will. And yet, people refuse to believe. It is as if, in society's urgent desire for everything to be alright, we refuse to accept the truth. In another one hundred years every seaside city in the world will be inundated in several feet of water, even though we don't want that to be the case. So we keep building, particularly in south Florida, making the problem all the worse for our descendants. While our heads are buried in the sand, we are bestowing upon future generations an unimaginable nightmare, for the sake of our vanity and short term profit. We should be ashamed of ourselves, but of course, we are not....PLEASE SHARE THIS SITE WITH OTHERS, AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO OFFER THEIR OWN CREATIVE THOUGHTS.
