YES, I FEAR ITS TRUE, though i would, even to this day , prefer that it woeen't. It seem to me that its one of the funniest, craziest, and saddest misconceptions anyone has ever had about anything, and wouldn't you know it, it was mine.
I actually, seriously thought that when president kennedy was killed, his replacement was a girl named "linda johnson", until my big sister straightened me out. My defense is that i was only eight years old, and under a lot of pressure.
But that's not the only one. I have a distinct recollection of standing at a window, watching it rain. I Musta been about five. I stared at the driveway, the sidewalk, and the street, frightened, worried that the water would soon "melt" the concrete, and it would all be liquified and ruined.
I guess i thought it was like dirt, and would turn into mud, Hell, I don't know... I remember being corrected by my music teacher because braodway musicals like "west side story" and "oklahoma" i referred to as "operas". But come to think of it, there is a lot of similarity...
ON another occasion i referred to the beatles, the rolling stones, and such, as "jazz", and that really got the teacher's dander up. She insisted that true jazz was something far superior to rock n roll. Forty five years later, i aint so sure.
OH yes, the first time i ever attended a major league baseball game, i was six, and when a batter hit a foul ball fly into the stands, a man stood up and caught it with his bare hands. I recall asking my father if the batter was out.
Live and learn. I wonder what stupid misconceptions i harbor right now, without even knowing it...
