MITT ROMNEY'S choice for running mate makes sense, a youngish, handsomeish chip off the old conservative block from a big state in which obama leads. it may work, wisconsin seems rather open minded, a liberal state willing to elect republicans.
Romney made a big point about how important it is to save medicare and social security, how he is the man who can do it, and obama isn't. The world has turned upside down. a conservative, championing medicare and social security. a conservative, expousing socialism.
back in 1935, when roosevelt started social security, you can bet your bottom dollar that no conservative republicans supported it. none. zilch. hell no. instead, they accused roosevelt of being a socialist, which he was, and his plans of being socialism, which they were, and still are.
so now even the conservatives in america are on board with socialism. this is true progress. and to think, the late great gore vidal believed, or claimed to believe, that there is only one political party in america, a conservative party, the party of property.
in 1965 all conservatives opposed medicare. again, it was socialism. what used to be liberalism and socialism is now mainstream conservatism. history moves to the left, slowly
maybe the property party is also the socialist party, to an extent. maybe in america we all agree that government shouldn't confiscate unreasonable amounts of somebody's hard earned money, even if they are wealthy, and that we should use government and progressive taxation to help each other out.
mitt romney, defending social security and medicare. will wonders never cease. what about his young handsome conservative running mate? will he too suddenly become a great champion of the unwashed masses? it would be an expedient course for him.
from this point forward, notice how both american presidential candidates move ever more toward the middle of the road, seeking to be all things to all people.
