A More Perfect World on Mars

RIGHT THIS VERY MOMENT, on the surface of Mars, a small car is taking pictures, working perfectly, no problems. It parachuted to a perfect landing about a week ago, through the thin martian air, gently onto the rocky red ground, wheels first.

With any luck at all the "Curiosity" rover will travel hundreds if not thousands of miles for many years, all over mars, showing us the entire planet. It is scheduled to begin moving around soon, but not too fast; safety first. no martian traffic accidents, please.

It could be argued that this is the greatest thing the united states has ever done. and  let's remember; the united stattes has done innumerable great things, the land of cheery achievement.

The entire human race, especially americans, should be following the progress of curiosity extremely closely, it could be argued. Unfortunately, human beings seem more interested in watching other people inflict violence upon each other than exploring mars.

in a more perfect america, in a more perfect world, television screens everywhere would be turned to the NASA channel, with a live twenty four seven program called "exploring mars" showing live video from the red planet, with record setting ratings.

NASA would make a ton of money, which it would invest in space exploration and development. Development, as in building permanent colonies on mars, the moon, and in earth orbit. Development, as in mining the asteroid belt for valuable resources, and manufacturing wealth in space.

but we don't live in a more perfect world, yet, do we....
