ARE THE PROTESTERS RIGHT?

Well, here we are! The big day has arrived, the day of the reawakening of Occupy Wall Street!  May Day, the day of the worker; this used to be a big day in the old soviet union, and why not keep it that way, my russian friends?

In 1886 in chicago the "haymarket strike" was crushed by the ruling corporate elite, and may first became a worker's-laborers day in the united states. later, when the soviet union formed under communist rule, glorifying the working class and hating the corporate ownership class, may first was borrowed and used by the soviets, who celebrated it intensely.

...looking out my window, i don't see any protesters with signs - yet. Of course, it might help if i lived in a town of more than two thousand people...

the occupy movement was going pretty good last fall, until the courts, police, and the cold finally broke it down. and it may never come back the way it was; or, it may get bigger. a lot depends on global economic conditions.

europe is fixn' to go off, again. soon the streets in paris and other great european cities will be filled with anti austerity protesters.  it goes deeper than that, though. the french will be protesting grotesque economic inequality, like they will be in america, though in france the inequality isn't nearly as great.

maybe there's nothing to protest. maybe one percent of the population owning ninety per cent of the wealth is a good thing, and should neither be opposed nor changed.

and maybe the inequality is the fault of the ninety nine per cent who are protesting instead of doing what it would take to make it right.

but what would it take to make it right? maybe if all the poor people would become more ambitious, and work harder, we could live in a world in which everyone, all seven billion of us, lives in a mansion and drives a cadillac. wouldn't THAT be grand?

it may be that the 99% are protesting against themselves, and their own laziness and lack of ambition, standing there with signs reading "we are the lazy 99%"..and "scorn us"

..on the other hand, perhaps there is just a hint of truth and validity to them. it could be that the very system istelf needs "adjusting".
