You cite it, You write it

Has any american president other than abraham lincoln and thomas jefferson ever written his own speeches? certainly none recently; probably none in the twentieth century, unless maybe woodrow wilson.

Maybe its best that way, using speechwriters, unless the president is thomas jefferson or abraham lincoln...

george washington wasn't a very good speech wirter, or communicator of any sort. he inspired others by his regal presence, not by his articulate speech. he was great at riding horses, but not at writing or delivering speeches.

for his first inauguration speech he utilized the writing talent of constitutional author and future president james madison, who wrote washington's speech for him. afterwards, the congress decided it would be appropiate to offer a response to the new president's remarks.

for this they summoned the most articulate man available; james madison. the congressional response speech contained lavish praise for washington's great erudition, and profoundly eloquent expression.

washington decided it would be proper to respond to the congressional response, so, once again, he asked madison to write it for him. again, madison agreed to write it. it contained lavish praise for the brilliant eloquence of the congressional speech.

Thus we see that  BS has no beginning, nor end. The Truthless Reconciler hereby proposes a law requiring the president of the united states to write his own speeches. Let the law be called the "President's Own Words" law, or P.O.W.

Later, we can amend and extend the law to include us all, making it illegal for any american to speak that which he or she did not write, or to write what they don't speak.

might as well attach a clever name to it, even more clever than "don't ask don't tell", and "stand your ground". you gotta have a clever name for a clever law. maybe something like "you cite it, you write it".
