THE UNITED STATES is in a hell of a pickle, and so is the rest of the world, particularly europe. longer life spans and lower birth rates are rapidly producing a much older american, german, japanese, and world society, a world in which a very high percentage of the population will soon be very aged , and will need a great deal of care. care for the elderly is becoming a big business in the united states, as america allows the titanic forces of capitalism to take part in the phenomenon.
human life span is tending to be mitigated by the obesity epidemic in america, the disease epidemic world wide, and war. but the mad scientifec scramble to prolong human life proceeds, and perhaps should be tempered by sound philosophy, and used reasonably, as should all human science and technology.
we all want to extend our life spans, but must we do so with such passionate, unrelenting fervor, so as to produce a race of ancient but unproductive people? its a question which needs answering.
let us reslove to improve the quality of life for the greatest number, and let longevity take care of itself.
a well known socialist is investing in companies which provide such care, even though overall he is investing (betting) in (on) the american stock market to decline...
people will have to work longer. that is, the lowest class of the working class will have to work longer, to pay for the staggering cost of all this. also, taxation of the wealthy will have to be used as a means of redistributing wealth to the poor, the consfiscatory policies dreaded by american conservatives shall indeed soon take place, world wide. sorry, billionaires. that's just the way it is.
progressive taxation, in which the most successful citizens support society the most, is inevitable, globally. it appears that the economies of europe and the united states are going to collapse, again, soon, which will throw the entire world into a depression, and result in the continuing ascension of china and japan, although they are barely faring any better themselves at the moment.
the problem is that there is simply too much money in circulation and not enough material wealth chasing it, and the money is concentrated too heavily. all this must change, and soon. humanity must increase production of its cumulative welath through capitalism and manufacturing, and must regulate the economy to intelligently utilize the new wealth thus generated by using socialism.
and we must do all this in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner. other than that, no problem.
and we'd better get started soon..
