May the first appears to have been a failure and a disaster, both for the cause of the workers and the cause of economic and social equality and justice. Its hard to imagine how yesterday's events will win any converts to the cause of equality.
Wasn't may the first intended to be a positive celebration of the concept of worker's rights and economic justice, tather than agrim reenactment of the violence in chicago in 1886? wasn't the intention originally to reap something positive, in perpetuity, in honor of a sad event?
So why was anybody calling it "national strike day"? what's that supposed to accomplish? an even more divided country, with violence replacing suspicion and animosity? what, urge going on strike because its may the first. is that the only reason? what? excuse me?? the way for workers to achieve fairness and equality is to organize and vote for it, not to force it by conquest and violence.
That the occupy wall street gatherings turned violent is sad and horrible beyond all comprehension. this should be a movement which above all else renounces violence of any sort, particularly since violence is essentially what the system they oppose stands accused of.
the occupy wall street movement has a very valid point of view, but violently is not the way to call attention to it. the movement needs to stop, take a deep breath, and reconsider its point and purpose.
peace, love, and harmony...but no violence.
one is damned near tempted to go trapesing into some wall street financial firm, and apply for a job, declaring "I want to be on your side, and am willing to clean the toilets."
