Nano Tech Tyranny

AT MY 40 YEAR high school reunion last summer, I saw a good buddy of mine that for some reason I hadn't seen in 35 years, and it was great to see him. He looked great, not a day over 25, and is a personal trainer. I asked him about his personal fitness routine, and he shocked me by telling me that he had a stent put in when he was fifty, and recently found out that he needed another one right now, and was going to get it. Wow, talk about a shock. Young healthy active guy like that. It got me to thinking about my own high cholersoral and low dose blood pressure medication, and my personal habits, diet, and all that. Then my thoughts turned to nano technology, which, according to science fiction books will soon make it possible to send robots into human blood vessels and clean them out, and to repair damage at the cellular level. Unfortunately, also according to science fiction books, it would be possible in theory for nanobots to get loose, and consume the entire planet, reducing everything to a pile of black mush. But unless I'm dreaming, there is indeed talk right about nano tech being available in the fairly near future. I'm sure we can all agree that the blood vessel and cell repair idea is far preferrable. Then the thought came to me; who will develop, market, and profit from this technology, assuming that it is being and soon will be developed, marketed, bought, sold, and paid for? Is there some big corporation, even as we speak , that is working hard on nano tech, in a top secret facility in the middle of the Nevada desert, poised to gather up every conceivable patent on every conceivable nano tech application, in a monopoly of ownership, enabling said corporation to profit obscenely? Are several different companies doing this? What about the government? (american government). What About other governments, Chinese, Russian, German, Israeli, and so forth? Top secret nano tech projects? This begs the question: Of which would you rather be at the mercy, a corporatsion, the corporate community, or government? Because, dear friend, this I can guarantee you: it will be one or the other. You will be at the mercy of either corporate enterprise, or government, just the way you are now. Maybe it'll be some complex combination of the two, like it is in every other aspect of life! ll we can do is uselessly scream: "Power to the people"! Nano tech for all! Nano tech democracy! Nano demo! Stuff like that, just like we always have, often to little or no avail.
