Wrong Place, Wrong Time For Singing

NPR (national public radio) is still funded by the U.S. government, methinks, and probably shouldn't be, event hough NPR is the greatest thing since the slicing of bread. It should be funded privately; by the public.

Three teen aged girls, according to NPR, decided to form a singing group, in india. Possibly, or presumably, they were already friends, all of whom happened to enjoy singing, and so they would often sing together for fun when they got together, perhaps after school.

One can imagine that oftentimes their singing was spontaneous, exuberant, and funny. They must be quite good too. They began giving concert performances, which were evidently successful and popular.

Presumably they primarily sang songs of some sort. Perhaps even already popular songs in inda, or perhaps from europe or america, or maybe some songs they themselves had written. And this evidently took place in the region of kashmir.

A powerful moslem cleric suddenly issued an announcement, or perhaps "decree" would be a better word, prohibiting the singing group from performing. The reason for this is unclear, but generally predictable. Either the girl's music failed to sufficiently sing the prasies of islam, or was outright sinful in content, perhaps even suggesting that sex is natural, not inherently sinful. who knows...

The cleric's fatwa gained traction, however, because NPR reported that the girls were disbanding their band, after an online hate campaign orchestrated by pro islamic interests started dogging them heavily.

Well, strike another blow for fanatical religious intolerance, against the forces of free artistic expression and culture. Hester Prynne "lived" four hundred years ago, and she actuallly did the dirty deed, instead of just singing about it. Today's christians don't seem to mind a little sexually exploitative american style commerical capitalism, and, lord willing and the creek don't rise, some day, neither will islam.

That teenaged girls singing group in india will find a way to get to america, if they know what's good for them. In america, we won't censor them, chastise them, stifle them, punish them. Oh,contrary... In america, we'll not only accept 'em, but we'll like 'em, and, if they're good enough, we'll turn 'em into fabulously wealthy and famous icons, and  like britney spears  and what's her name...Taylor Swift!
