Wolves in the Hen House

HOW COMFORTING THAT the united nations security council, all fifteen members, condemns north korea's nuclear bomb program. It is gratifying that the big five: russia, china, france, great britain, and the united states can all agree on something, anything.

The other ten temporary security council members just do what they're told. To the victors of world war two went the spoils. Wouldn't it be even more gratifying, and comforting, if the big five, who possess nearly all the world's nuclear weapons, would  condemn their own possession of them?

Geting north korea to disarm nuclearly is gonna be tricky; if china hasn't done it by now, who can? And why should north korea disarm? There seems to be no force of will strong enough to enforce the security council's desires.

All eight nations who have atomic bombs consider it to be of vital necessity that they maintain them. India and Pakistan must defend against each other; israel must have a weapon beyond anything possessed by the their arab enemies.

human beings do not as a general rule enjoy disarming themselves. We already have the weapons. Of what value could eliminating them be to us? People who rise to top positions of government leadership in any country do not do so by advocating the military weakening of the country.

In every country on earth a huge majority of citizens favor global disarmament, the reduction of military spending, and the reinvestment of military asssets in lifting the per capita living standard.

But there is no nation on earth in which this has happened, or is going to happen. The "strength at any cost" war mongers, the ones who make the most patriotic sounding noise, always gain power. Every permanent member of the security council is or has been an empire comprised of conquered nations.

ask the tibetians about the chinese. ask the latvians, lithuanians, poles, or afghanis about the russians. ask india about great britain. ask viet nam or cambodia about france, and ask the native americans, the vietnamese, or the phillipinos about the united states. The hen house is run by wolves.
