Why We Do What We Do, Part Two (checking on neighbors)

MY FRIEND and i were taking a walk in the park. Normally at that time we would have been in school, but school had been let out because of the flu. We didn't have the flu, so we were out walking, getting ready to get home to watch TV and fix some lunch. We were discussing justin bieber, and whether he would like ashley, kendra, or both.

we noticed an older man, jogging slowly way behind us on the trail, and it kinda looked like he was trying to walk fast, or maybe he ws just jogging, real slow. He looked old, slow, and tired. We were surprised to see any grown ups, because it wa a work day. Maybe this man was retired.

we kept wondering whether he would catch up with us before we left the trail and headed for home, not that it really mattered. As he got closer we noticed the sweat pouring off him, his face was very red, he was breathing heavily, trying to make it up a totally lame hill.

We wondered whether he would be alright, so we kept looking back at him every few minutes, just to make sure he was still on his feet, and hadn't collapsed or anything. As we left the park, ready to go home and eat, we noticed that he was still coming in our direction, but was now walking, slowly.

We thought he might be in trouble, so we kept our eye on him, and decided that if he seemed to need help we could call for help on my cell phone, or my friend's cell phone. As we were leaving the park and walking donw the street away from the park, we saw him stop at a car in the parking lot.

Instead of getting in the car, he just leaned against it, and didn't move, looking exhausted. Maybe he was too tired to move any further. Fineally he got in, started the motor, and slowly drove away . We kept our eyes on him until he was out of sight down the road, just to make sure he made it alright.

At least if he had to he could probably drive himself to get help, and as tired and worn oujt as he looked, like he was in pain, we just wanted to make sure. I hope he survived the day.
