Packing Heat In School

CHILDREN ARE CARRYING GUNS into schools in america in increasing numbers, according to an article on the MSN homepage. Several dozen children, often elementary school age, have been caught with pistols since january first. since theass random mass murder in connecticut there has been a large increas, nationally, two every day, on average. That may not sound like much, but, if you think about it, it is.

Almost every one of the kids says he (and its always a he) was packing heat because he felt the need for protection. A few are participating in grudges, gangs, and  vendettas. In almost every case, the parent is not aware that the child is doing this; the chid usually sneaks a weapon belonging to a parent.

In every case teh child is disciplined, often with a suspension; there are no school districts in america, at least yet, which allow students to bring guns to school. sometimes teh child's parents are interviewed by the police, and charges of failur eto secure a firearm are brought.

America seems to be headint towards a conceal and carry culture of packing hidden heat, so you foreign visitors, keep this in mind. In america, you never know who is armed. Even the gun totin' conservatives who want armed police in public schools or want teachers to carry guns do not want the students to carry guns. At least, we hope they feel that way.

But if several dizen have been caught, then there must be many many more students taking guns to school, everyday, who remain undetected. That, coupled with the epidemic of agresssion in american schools which we call bullying, adn you have a potential frightening combination. Some of the kids caught packing heat claimed they were doing so to stop from being bullied.

In a country and culture founded, nurtured, and saturatd in violence, it should not be surprising that it filters down to the children. It always has. When i was ten years old, or thereabouts, i had the opportunity to fire a twenty two rifle at empty beer cans, and i was give a BB gun for christmas.

I loved both of them, and i keep thinking about rearming myself, to relive childhood fun. I've been thinking about it for a long time, and i might do it anytime now. so, i am not "anti gun". But we have a real problem in this country, and that is obvious when you consider the fact that there are several million americans who aren't even willing tosoncider th epossibility of banning automatic assault weapons, like AK47s and M16. That's crazy....

Defending the second amendment to the U.S. constitution is one thing, insanity is another. Its crazy to use the names of jefferson and madison and the founders to defend weapons utterly beyond their conception. If we want a literal interpretation of the constitution, we should limit gun ownership to muzzle loaders.

There is a real sickness in america, and all this insane gun violence is just one of many obvious symptons. The sickness is a sickness of the spirit. We'd better get about the business of healing ourselves, or there will be even greater trouble ahead.
