A Strong America?

For those of you who may not know, there have been times when not only american domestic government policy has been and is flawed, but unless you've been living on mars, you know there's been times when american foreign polciy aint too smart neither.

Here's one suggestion (others will surely follow). The United States should withdraw from NATO, even though the United States started NATO. Western Europe is far more prosperous and populous than america. If the europeans can't or won't defend themselves from some imaginary enemy, how can or why should the United States?

All american troops, of which there are tens of thousands, stationed in NATO countries should be brought home. Also, the United States should consider the idea of stopping all military aid to the middle east. That would oblige the hard liners in Israel to make peace with the palestinians. 

Let's bring our troops home, from all over the world, and start defending this country, instead of the rest of the world. That is a radical idea, of course. To keep the american military in america, defending our beloved america! Radical indeed. 

As an american, I want America to be strong. But I don't want to bankrupt the country with huge military spending, merely to maintaing a global empire. Liquidate the empire, and reap the peace dividends. Reduce military spending by at least one third, and include everyone in the nation's defense, in a huge reserve capacity. It would be less expensive, more inclusive, and more effective.

Many people around the world have strong misgivings about recent and current american foreign policy. It seems to be predicated on the desire to enhance the prosperity of the largest american corporations. 

So do many americans have misgivings about american foreign policy, including me. But, like Jefferson said "if the people become inattentive to the affairs of government,  the legislators and magistrates will divide society into two classes: wolves, and sheep."

Well, "we the people" long ago became inattentive, and the biggest corporations took over the country. Will we the people ever have the  will to take it back?
