Progress
People make mistakes. Human being don't always get it right, often, in fact, they get it wrong. They try to figure out what's going on around them, and they often get it wrong. And thus, misconceptions are born, and nurtured, and propagated...
...so that eventually everyone on earth has the wrong idea, the misconception, which is also the best, and only explanation widely accepted. But, the flat earth and the nature gods and spirits and magic eventurally, slowly were replaced by better explanations, based more on observable fact.
And the process continues to this day, and doubtless far beyond this day; the process of discovery by which humans, over time, get closer to the truth, or think they do. The struggle continues, to understand ourselves, to understand life, to understand the world, the universe, and god.
And, like every civilization before us, we tend to think we're pretty close to the truth, or at least, on the right track. And, like every civilization before us, we will be proven wrong. We're nowhere close to the truth, in any field of inquiry or knowledge, and our descendants will laugh that we ever thought we were.
Einstein said "we don't know one millionth of one per cent of anything." He was right, of course, then and now. we still don't know much, because there is so much to know.
Every religion, every belief that ever was, has been overthrown and replaced by something new, improved, better. And so it will be with us, though we don't yet know how. Every religion on earth, and there are thousands, will have vanished within a few thousand, if not a few hundred years.
The economic system of the future, whatever it may be, will make ours look primitive. One might almost envy our descendants, assuming there will be any; for if there are, they might well live in a world much improved from ours. Our job is to see that they get the chance.
