Evidently a global coalition of about eighty countries is forming to help the rebels in Syria. The United States, presumably, is leading the coalition; doesn't the United States lead all war making coalitions?
But I'm in favor of this coalition. Apparently the plan is to supply weapons to the rebels. One would think that eighty countries working together, including the good ole U.S.A., could funnel a boatload of weapons to anybody they wanted to. Mostly small automatic arms, probably, protective wear, and maybe anti tank guns. Food, if needed.
Every time america starts one of these coalitions I am initially very excited about it and supportive of it, then, later, somehow, my enthusiasm dims, as the war starts to go bad, and I end up opposing the whole thing. That happened in Viet Nam.
I hope the Assad regime in Syria is overthrown, and the great Syrian people take over, and institute a democracy. Somehow though, I have a sense of foreboding, as if it might not be all that smooth. For one thing, Syria is a powerful country, militarily, and Assad has a lot of weapons. This could become a huge civil war, particulary with the american led gang involved.
The Arab revolution has been inspiring, but where is it headed? How long will the military dictate in Egypt? What form of government will egypt have for the long term? What about Lybia?
May the people of the world rise up and cast off their chains! And believe me, overall, around the world, the masses of people are in chains; the chains of poverty, oppression, and exploitation.
The Occupy Wall Street movement may end up with a more permanent internet presence than public park presence, and the arab revolt may end up joing hands with the occupiers, with similar goals.
Beware of the USA and her wolfpack seizing control of syria, and replacing a tyrannical government with another. IN many respects, the people of the United States itself, the land of freedom, could use a little more freedom. Or even a lot more freedom...
