Changing

I GET UP early everyday, like a lot of people seem to. Well before sunrise, usually. As always, this morning I looked for some sign of rain, but found none. However, there has recently been some rain near here, so I don't think our current severe drought will last forever. At least, I hope not. More frequent, more severe droughs are part of the predictions for climate change. So far, the scientists have been right. Climate change has arrived. Every old person you talk to who has lived here his or her entire life agrees: the climate has changed. We canexpect longer, hotter summers, and shorter, milder winters, with more extreme weather year round. We humans ae well aware of global warming, and what causes it, and yet, we keep doing it. We keep dumoing millions of tons of carbon into the Earth's atmosphere. If carbon gas were not colorless and odorless, maybe we'd pay more attention to it, and maybe even do something about the fact that we are poisoning the atmosphere and thus ourselves with it. It certainly is time to start. We must not only stop polluting teh atmohphere with carbon, we must also remove what we have already put there. Btw, global warming and climate change are essentially the same thing. The more people who are aware of global warming, and actively trying to stop and reverse it, the better our chances as a species of doing so. You know global warming is happening. Commoon sense tells you that. There are too many people generating too much heat on a planet too small. Cleaning up the Earth's entire environemnt means not heating the atmosphere and polluting it, as we are now doing. The same problem exists with the planet's soil and water resources. Too many people have treated the Earth like a trash dump for way too long. Now is a good a time as any, in fact better than any, to radically change our ways, to start disposing of our garbage wisely, mainly by recycling it. Now is the time for consumers, especially the world renowned American consumer, to radically change our ways, to use less, and to conserve more. Now is the time for American consumers to all demand biodegradable and recyclable consumer material goods. Above all less we the Amercan people must stop using throw away never diodegrades plastic, and start using biodegradable plastic, if something like that is ever invented. We are drowning ourselves in plastic, and evidently we are all full of microplastic, including molecules of it in our bloodstreams, organs, and brain. Not a pleasant thought. There is a limit to how many huge landfills we can dig and fill up. More than fifty years when I was a ninth grader in high school in 1969-1970 joined the "ecology" club. This was during a period of time when all of America's big cities were drowning in smog and air pollution, as were many major waterways, rivers and lakes, Lake Eerie catching on fire. The enviromental movement grew extremely fast. I remember our big project was to get together on Saturady mornings at some public park or other public spaces which had a lot of litter, and clean it up. The anti-litter advertising campaign has been around for years, and obviously we still need it. With regard to the microplastics in our bodies, water, and soil, who knows what to do? I hope "they" think of something. In the meantime, maybe I can clean up my act a bit.
