Change

IF YOU ARE an american conservative, and you often become frustrated with liberals for being too liberal, be warned; where they are now, you someday shall be....you, or your descendants.

...if you are a liberal, wishing that somehow the conservatives would see the light, and catch up, no need to worry, they will. It just may take a little longer than you think, or want.

Today's conservatives are yesterday 's liberals. Case in point, civil rights. Fifty years ago only left wingers advocated racial equality, conservatives were all for segregation, "spearate but equal", if nothing else. Today, even conservatives would agree that this was false, barbaric, primitive doctrine, then, and now.

Another case in point; when social security came into being in 1935, and when medicare and medicaid began in 1965, all conseratives were vociferously opposed to these socialistic invasions of amrican free enterprise. Both roosevelt and LBJ were called "commies" by conservatives. The programs passed congress because of a temporary coalition of liberals and moderates.

These days there is a strange neo conservatism, including GOP VP candidate Ryan, who wants to turn medicare and medicade into voucher programs, moving towards privatization, but this will go nowhere, fast. The point here is, everyone, conservatives included, believes in the basic existence of both medicare and medicade, which is far to the left of where they once were.

Conservatism always moves to the left, albeit sluggishly.

History is change. Liberalism is change.  conservative is the ultimately futile attempt to thwart change.
