More than seven months have passed since the Joplin tornado and still not a day goes by that some story pops up in the local media to remind us of the silver lining in that tornado cloud. Recently the Joplin Globe reported the Rotary Club, with an assist from Keller Williams Realty, will build a “miracle” ball field for special needs kids at the Joplin Athletic Complex. The field is dedicated to Will Norton, the promising young high school graduate whose tragic death in the tornado made international news. The greatest tribute to this young man will be the smiles on the faces of the special needs kids who will benefit from this gift. My sister Nan, age 50, has Downs Syndrome, and throughout her active life, I have witnessed all kinds of sporting events for special kids, including tennis, volleyball, softball, golf, swimming, bowling, and of course, the Special Olympics. Some have extraordinary athletic skills but they all deserve gold medals for their attitudes. Kids with special needs also have special gifts, a superior ability to love, laugh, and overcome limitations. I can’t wait to attend the first game at the miracle field. Cheers to you, Rotary Club and Keller Williams Realty. ### annie
