Humans learned very early that groups need leadership, organization, direction, all of which can be loosely categorized under the term "control", or government. Ever since that realization folks have been discussing the concept of government, which is best, and so forth, from Plato's Republic to the present.
Its been said that a benevolent dictatorship is the most effective form of government.
In America we favor democracy, government of the people, by the people, and for the people, and I reckon if I were willing to die for anything, it might be that. WE believe that the government governs best which governs least, and we seem to believe that its best to changes governments regularly.
Changing government frequently is as important as the other principles. No matter how good a government is, it is preferrable not to have the same people in power for long. The beauty of the American system is that it keeps the same system of government while often changing the people in power.
Having said that, the United States need a new constitution. There is nothing sacred about the old one, and we could improve it considerably. Jefferson and Madison would be appalled that we were still using the same document they engendered, an improved version, but still the same basic document. They would, however, probably like most of the amendments, and regard them as minor improvements.
Other countries need entirely new governments, right now. Iran, Syria, and North Korea come to mind.
WE the people of the world must unite to fight for good government, everywhere.
