Destroying Syrian Weapons

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in typical magnanimous form, or imperialistic form, has stepped forward and offered to destroy the chemical weapons recently confiscated from the embattled Syrian government. Either that, or the world community insisted that America do the honors, which seems unlikely. We hope and trust that the Americans destroy all these chemical weapons in an efficient, effective, environmentally friendly manner, correct? Are we all agreed on that? Let's face it; when it comes to saving and protecting the global environment, the American government has been a bit, shall we say, late to the party? And of course, the United States of America possesses the largest stockpile of chemical weapons on the face of the earth, not surprisingly. One rather hopes that the United States government doesn't simly remove all chemical weapons from Syrian soil, only to deposit them unceremoniously in the depths of the ocean, where they will pollute the ecosystem, but slowly. Alternatively, one might hope that the U.S. government won't simply seize Syria's stockpile, and transfer it to American soil, and American possession. Who but the world's leading stock piler of chemical weapons might possibly be more interested in acquiring even more, correct? One can hope that you Russian and Chinese people/governments won't someday come to regret that you entrusted the destruction of Syrian weapons singularly to the Americans, without any thought of providing witness oversight. May the Americans successfully destroy all chemical weapons previously owned by Assad's Syria! And may the United States successfully coerce Iran into complete nuclear disarmament. And, last but not least, may the U.S.A. itself one day rid itself of all chemical and nuclear weapons.
