Trading Places; Leaving and Coming to America
AMERICANS ARE LEAVING the United States in droves, like never before. Thousands per year, since Obama took office. More than the usual outflow of white collar criminals fleeing forthcoming convictions, and draft dodgers fleeing military service. The people leaving America now are mostly wealthy, or upper middle class, leaving to avoid paying taxes. Avoiding American taxation has always been a motive for Americans putting their money is places like the Caribbean Islands and the Swiss Alps. When the wealthy or the famous leave the country, they are expatriots. It was once easy to move one's money out of the United States while continuing to live in the United States, but not so much any more. Now, in order to avoid the full thrust of federal income tax, one must move one's physical body off shore as well. Those liberals, and their ruthless assault upon the wealthy, the achievers. Driving them out of the country. Thousands of wealthy Americans, taking their wealth out of the country, to places like the Grand Cayman Islands, Europe, and Australia, making the rest of us all the poorer. Or would it be better to get rid of them all? A nation of the middle class and the working poor at long last, without the wealthy overlords! It might well be that the United States of America, and for that matter the world, would be a better place if there were more movement, more relocations among people from one country to another. More travel, visitations, and relocations of Americans abroad, and more foreigners visiting and living in the U.S.. The great cultures of the world would remain intact, enriched by contact with others. But, by virtue of greatly enhanced personal contact, international understanding would take a quantum leap forward, creating universal peace forever on earth. Hey, its worth a try! American culture is brand new, a work in progress, unfinished and subject to influence by anyone who comes here, and brings another culture along. How could there be international wars if most people were living in nations other than the one in which they were born?
