Waiting For My Sister To Die
MY SISTER IS A COUPLE OF YEARS older than I am, and she and her husband are retired, while I continue to slave away, in the service of humanity. They live a life of retired leisure, traveling about half the time, relaxing and doing what they damned well please the rest of the time. The other day I overheard her telling our mother, that she and her husband were going to visit their attorney, and have their will drawn up. That immediately caught my attention. They have no children, and he has no siblings, and I am her only sibling. "Why would we want to die with six or seven hundred thousand dollars?" she was saying, "when we can leave it to a good cause". Yeah, a good cause, I thought. Like me. My sister has always been a hard working intelligent decision maker. and a highly successful person. I, on the other hand, have been, shall we say, a tad lacking, in terms of overall accumulation of wealth and preparedness for retirement. But the good cause she was referrig to wasn't me. It was the humane society, or some such nonsense. She went on to say that since her little brother is doing all right, he wont' need any of it. I couldn't believe my ears. Quickly I told her that she was the sole benificiary in my will, and that if she chose to make me the inheritor of her estate, I would promise to care for her cats, and leave the money to the humane society when I die. I hope that strategy worked. But as she pointed out, since I am a an, I am likely to die before she does, even though she is two and a half years older than I. Bummer. By the time I get her corvette, even if I do, I'll be too damned old to stoop down far enough to get in the low riding little hottie.
