Vaccinating
THE GREAT RACE for the vaccine has heated up,and may be over before we know it. The excitement intensified when the Moderna company passed its first test, and Pfizer hastened to do two test rounds at the same time. Meanwhile, president Trump jumped into the fray, with a government vaccine project. Why not? as of now it appears that the winning motive may indeed be greed, capitalism, the profit motive. The firs Covid 19 vaccine would be a huge victory for corporate America, one of which it would doubtless seek to take full advantage. But what about vaccine projects and programs around the world, of which there are evidently many? Who will claim credit for having the first vaccine, and who will get the credit> Pfizer is even now preparing, in terms of infrastructure and physical plant, to manufacture and market two hundred million copies of the vaccine, whatever it may turn out to entail. All this they intend to implement before the end of the year. Perhaps enough vaccinations could be manufactured by enough different companies to vaccinate every person on the planet by the end of this year, or early next year. To do this at reasonable expense, for reasonable profit would be a noble goal. Whether the virus is defeated and the economy recovered by election day will likely have a great impact on whether Trump is reelected. One can only hope for the best. The best case scenario is that the virus will be soon extinguished, with a vaccine appropriately distributed and administered to everybody. Then, of course, a rapid and vigorous economic recovery would be nice, no matter who the president is. We must hope for economic prosperity, and work to achieve it. The best outcome would be that the American people awaken, and realized that the Trump administration handled the virus horribly, incompetently, and that if it had been urging people to social distance instead of calling the virus a "hoax" at the time Trump called it that, then over fifty thousand fewer would have died by now in the epidemic. Feel free to argue with the researchers at Columbia. The performance of the Trump administration before, and during the epidemic has been deplorable, no matter how rapidly the virus expires and no matter how rapidly the economy recovers, and because of that, and so many other reason, Trump must be voted out.
