Stealing

THERE IS SHOCK, fear, and righteous outrage in certain sectors of American society, corporate, government, public, private, over the Chinese allegedly trying to steal American research into a vaccine for Covid 19. This negative response is indicative of the American capitalistic system, with its proprietary priorities. In America, corporate and government power are effectively the same thing, so the FBI's warning that the Chinese may be pilfering research material reflects corporate and government concerns both. Since Covid 19 is a definite threat to everyone, every person and country, it could be effectively argued that all research into vaccines should be shared, cooperative, and that profit seeking capitalistic motives should be put aside, at least this once. Today president Trump actually made reference for the need for international cooperation in the search for vaccines, treatments, and cures, and this is most auspicious, and out of character for the capitalist president. As a sixty five year old, I really don't care where the vaccine comes from, or who profits from it. Preferably a system could be designed in which everybody benefits from the vaccine, and nobody becomes fabulously wealthy because of it, but the people or corporations responsible for its development are rewarded reasonably. If the notion of international cooperation sounds un-American, that's because it is. The United States is a highly proprietary culture, which places personal profits above the public welfare. Perhaps an agreement could be arranged in which all nations agree to share all research with the entire world, to produce a massive organized global effort.
