The Bomb

THE COMPLAINTS that conservatives make (fabricate) against president obama include, among many others, that iran is developing a nuclear bomb, and obama hasn't stopped them from doing it. ho hum.

Living in a country with seven thousand nuclear bombs, its kind of hard to seriously worry about another country having one bomb, or even several bombs. Either way, the united states could smash iran at will, right? Eight different countries already have nuclear bombs; one more doesn't seem all that earth shattering.

Whether iran joins the atomic bomb club is far less important than whether we, the human race, get rid of all atomic bombs, and never make any more, ever. Because, as long as even one country has the bomb, we are all in deadly danger.

Remeber, only the united states has ever attacked anyone with nuclear bombs, and it was entirely unnecessary, it was nothing other than a dramatic threatrical display of power, intended to frighten the russians. By august, 1945, the japanese had no military, no fight left, and had been offering surrender all summer long, ignored by the Truman administration.

Douglas MacArthur wanted to use atomic bombs against china during the korean war. he had a plan, involving dropping about thiry five bombs all over china, destroying their harbors, military sites, industries, and cities, which probably would have worked, and won the korean war for america. instead, the united had to settle for a draw in the korean war.

the same bomb the hell out of them emerged during the viet nam war, and once again tabled, and this time, the united states lost the war. so there seems to be fairly good evidence that the country most likely to use atomic weapons, and to use them needlessly, is the united states.

we are afraid to use the atomic bomb, and afraid to get rid of it. truly, a tiger by the tail. einstein once said that as long as their are humans, there will be war. we can hope he was wrong, but until we get rid of our deadliest weapons, it hard to imagine how.
