Conflict and Conciliation

AS THE DAY AFTER election day wore on, it became quite obvious that conservatives/republicans were very, very unhappy, angry, bitter, and it is not hard to figure out why. I tried to comfort as many as possible, with mixed results.

Obama may be the most hated president since lincoln, though, to give credit where credit is due, the american people are very good at hating their leaders.

I tried to remind people that obama is not entirely, but only partly a socialist, that he truly has nothing against christianity, capitalism, or white people. It was a tough sell, and a long day. But, you try. I told one lady that i had told myself that if romney wins, i would not kill myself, and that if i could do it, she could do it.

My ninety two year old mother asserted that all good americans should respect and support their president no matter who it is, and i reminded her that we live in a country in which, one time, a president was elected who was so hated immediately that half the country walked out of the united states of america. That turned into a real mess.

But yes, my mother is right, we should, as americans, respect each other, and our president.

We americans are so arrogant that none of our personal opinions can possibly be wrong, or influenced by anything new, and we resort to extremism, exaggeration, and rigidity to proclaim our self importance.

Bush is a moron. Obama is a socialist. Surely everyone is sick and tired of all that by now. The politics of the future is liberalism which respects and accepts conservatism, because conservatism can never respect and accept liberalism.
