Opportunity and Duty

LET THE VOTING BEGIN! Or actually, it already began, about two weeks ago. Heading into "election day", approximately thirty five per cent of the amercian voters who are going to vote have already voted, in early voting in twenty three states.

Thirty five per cent of the fifty per cent who bother to vote, on a good day. Voting is not as pupular in america as it is in iraq, where everybody votes, if and when they get the chance, thanks in part to the good ole U.S. of A.

Americans, who fight for the right for others to vote elsewhere, do not vote in large numbers, percentage wise, at home. Go figure. Its almost as if they sense (quite correctly) that they really don't have much to vote for.

We need to get everybody to vote. Bring on mob rule! The very thing the founders were most afraid of, popular government, government of the many, we have never had, but could, if only we cared enough.

People like Jefferson, Madison, Washington were, by our standards, wealthy powerful chauvenistic arrogant tyrants who considered the masses to be far beneath themselves. But they were radical revolutionaries, because they fought for greater democracy and equaltiy than had ever been known among humans.

We need early voting, say, two weeks worth, in every state. And we need voting by computer and telephone. early, or on election day. The more ways to vote, the better. Three cheers for mob rule!

The electoral college, representative government, multiple layers of government; all were, and are intended to prevent the unwashed masses from actually gaing any real power in america.

We can foil this elitist schme by voting in overwhelming numbers, but we still need more: we need candidates and issues to vote on and for. We need choices in candidates other than tweedle dee and tweedle dum. Our current one party system can never and will never create democracy.

So, until we get some better options to vote on,its probably best to exercise the right (voting is a right, not a privilege) to vote for the severely limited choices we currently have. At least we have that much.
