Longing For Trump the Messiah

THE GOVERNOR OF SOUTH DAKOTA gave Donald Trump a full throated, ringing endorsement as Don the alleged Con broke out of a month long pep rally moratorium. In front of a prototypical mob of MAGAts, the lady, herself a supposed rising star within the Government Overthrow Party (G.O.P) and presumed future presidential candidate, made no bones about it: she is one hundred percent behind Trump, for the usual reason; only he can save the country. He, and the screeching red ball capped throng, agreed. He then went on with the standard whining about his legal entanglements. The indictments are directed at you not him. They are a witch hunt. The indictments were ordered directly from the Oval Office by none other than President Joe Biden... The governor has seen which way the wind blows across the cold great plains,and understands that her future, if any, in American politics, if she has any, depends on lining up behind a career con man with no fewer than ninety one felony raps hanging over his apparently befuddled head. Support for Donald Trump has become a matter of defiance. His political support base has long since evolved into an actual cult. Cult leaders are above th law, must never be questioned, and deserve the unqualified support of their sycophants. Trump has all that, in spades,or rather, in honkies. Comparisons between Trump and his followers, and Hitler and his, began not long after he announced his campaign for president in the summer of 2015, in what now seems like another universe, by condeming Hispanic immigrants as rapists and murderers,with some few good people sprinkled in for good measure. A thinly disguised appeal to the latent racism lurking just beneath the surface of conservatism. African countries are "shit hole" countires, he said, without caring who heard him say it,and we'd all be a lot better off if more immigrants came from Norway, said the Donald, raher than from more darkly pigmented parts of the world. The comparisons between Hitler and his National Socialist (NAZI) cult followers and Trump and his MAGA cult followers become more appropo by the minute. Trump's run for the White House began with an appeal to racism, and never relented. Those who support Trump hate being forced to share their money with anyone. They also hate doing it voluntarily. They hate anyone who in their opinion are heretics,heretics being non Christians. White, Christian, capitalistic America, an America of the heart and the imagination which has almost always nearly existed but never quite has in entirety. Non WASPs, non Christians, and socialists have always been among us, and the white anglo saxon protestant capitalistic plurality has always wanted and tried to get rid fo them. MAGA is merely the latest incarnation of John Birch. I have a good friend who is a staunch post insurrection Trump supporter. He once told me that if he were hiring somebody, had two applicants, one white, one black, and the black guy was more qualified, he would hire the black guy. But if they were equally qualified, he would hire the white guy. My friend cannot conceive of himself as a racist, not in a million years. Ditto MAGATs. They canot conceive of themselves as being what they actually are; angry people longing for an America which they think used to exist, and almost did, but never really has. If one didn't know better, one might almost think that these same God fearing people are eagerly awaiting the return of some mythical messiah who was once here, long ago, and promised to return, and therefore will, some fine day in the very near future.
