Going Lower Than Ever
THE REPUBLICANS have gone low before; arguably they often do, but this might be the lowest yet. Your average conservative Republican seems to have no idea exactly how low Donald Trump has taken the party, how deeply in the mud it is mired, because he is. It has gotten bad. I refer to the impeachment "inquiry" now going on in the House of Representatives. There is absolutely no halfway sensible reason for having an "impeachment inquiry" into President Biden. There is simply nothing there, no evidence of any crimes by the president, nothing upon which to base this tawdry theatrical display, including Hunter Biden. Sure, Hunter Biden may have, many times, taken advantage of his father's name to get special treatment. But there is no evidence that if he did, Joe Biden had any knowledge of it, nor anything at all to do with it. What motivates the Republicans has nothing to do with the pursuit of justice; its all about hatred. They want to bring down Joe Biden so badly, that they are basically willing to do about anything to accomplish it. Ironic, that they classify the exposure of Donald Trump's crimes as a "witch hunt". The real witch hunt is the one they are subjecting President Biden to. It has been made clear in the testimony of several key witnesses that nobody has any evidence against the President. Perhaps this whole proceeding will get laughed out of court, and out of the news. The desperation with which they are grasping at straws is astonishing. One would expect better of them, something at least a bit more plausible, and creative. It may backfire. This fake action against President Biden will soon blow over and be forgotten, while Donald Trump's legal entanglements and circumstances become increasingly complicated, and worse for him, drawing ever more media and public attention. Assuming a Biden versus Trump presidential race, what are the Democrats going to talk about on the campaign trail? "So, what happened with Trump in court today? I didn't get a chance to watch". Going into next year, Trump's various trials; he is now under indictment in at least five jurisdictions, looking at ninety one felony charges, will consume ever more of Trump's time and effort, distracting from the presidential campaign. Next year, Donald Trump'll be a very busy boy. If I am Biden, or on Biden's team, which in a sense I am, I'm not gonna just ignore Trump, and pretend that his situation is different from what it actually is, which, all things considered, is not especially conducive for running for president, we might agree. Surely we can all agree on that, if nothing else. That if you were running for president, you would probably prefer not to be in the legal situation Donald Trump is now in. Won't Biden, on the campaign trail, just be content to say "How in the hell can Donald Trump really be president from prison"? And leave it at that? True, according to the polls, if the election were held today, Trump would win, astonishingly. But that might change. Considering that most Americans are against banning abortions, most do not like book banning or infringing on the rights of LGBTQ people - the whole G.O.P. conservative agenda is not well regarded by most Americans. As Trump's legal difficulties expand, and become ever more apparent and publicized, it will not help his campaign for president. It will begin to be a drag on it, and will eventually bring it down. And that is why, and only why, they are now trying so desperately go after Biden - to change the subject. This Biden impeachment charade will divert attention from Trump slightly, for a short period of time, but the conversation is always going to come back to Trump, because Trump wants it to.
