IN THE FINAL STRETCH, at long last, of the american presidential election odyssey, the fur is truly flying, so to speak.Candidate romney is trying to convince us that the obama foreign policy has been a total disaster, even though the prez has wound down his two inherited, needless republican wars as successfully as could be expected, and started none of his own, yet.
The fact that obama didn't rant, rave, fume, and threaten war when the four americans were recently murdered in libya mitt misconstrues as weakness, as if he would have done much of anything either. The last thing the united states needs is another war; our modern wars last forever,we usually lose them, and they don't seem to stimulate the economy the way they used to.
Other republicans assert that if obama is reelected, he will get us "sucked in" to other wars. So, on the one hand he is a weak president now, but will morph into a war monger later. Conservatives are not known for logical consistency when attacking with the intellect.
Turning to economic matters, obama has been a complete catastrophe there as well, say the republicans, because the recovery is not as fast as we want. mitt romney is on unsteady ground economically, because by now everyone understands that he truly is a son of wealth, who has spent his entire life multiplying his personal wealth, under all curcumstances, regardless of impact on other people and businesses.
And by now people understand that mitt romney neither empathizes with nor respects people are are not wealthy as he is.
obama can always say that general motors and bank of america are alive and AIG and Citigroup are alive, and osama bin laden is dead, all on his watch, which is what matters. and bill clinton can remind us that nobody could have saved the country quicker than obama, and that any and every president would have bailed out coroprate amerca like obama did. Unfortunately, there was no other choice.
Left wing liberals don't like big corporations, and certainly didn't want to save them. Conservatives don't like big government involvement in the economy. But there was no other choice. If obama were smart, he would now declare his agreement with mitt romney on how now to further stimulate the american economy, and would be quite honored to have mitt as an economic advisor in the second obama administration.
